Active listening means you’re concentrating on what the other person is saying and asking follow-up questions if you don’t understand. Learning how to actively listen to someone may take time. However, practicing how to listen and respond is an important soft skill for the workplace.

In this video, a woman is given instructions by her manager. How does she receive the instructions? Is she actively listening?

After watching the video think about the following things;

  1. Was the woman who was given instructions actively listening to her manager?
  2. How can you tell?
  3. What should she have done differently to actively listen?
  4. What is the consequence of her not actively listening to her manager?
  5. How would the manager have reacted if the woman had asked clarifying questions?

In the workplace, there is constant communication about projects, meetings, and deadlines. It’s crucial that you focus and listen to all instructions given to you!
