Everyday Social Skills Covering basic social skills needed for everyday activities in your community, Everyday Social Skills includes common daily activities such as walking down the street, using a restroom, waiting in line, asking for directions, asking for information and joining in a group. The program is simple and direct, and is a must for any social skills training program. Walking - Know where you are going, Walk with a friend, Know the directions, If you get lost – ask for directions, Wear proper clothing (light colors), Use the sidewalk, Stay to the right, Move over to let others pass, Use the walk signs, Look where you are going, Don’t interrupt others, Don’t stare at others, Greet others, Pay attention to where you are going, Keep your things safe, Don’t litter, Don’t walk alone, Don’t walk at night Using a Restroom - Find the correct restroom, Wait for your turn, Respect the privacy of others, Don’t stare at others, Find an empty stall, Check for toilet paper, Enter the stall, Lock the stall door, When done, flush the toilet, Clean up after yourself, Get your belongings, Unlock the stall door, Wash your hands, Check yourself over, Exit the restroom Waiting in Line - Go to the end of the line, Give space to others, Don’t stare at others, Talk quietly, Keep your belongings with you, Don’t cut in the line, Don’t push, Move forward as the line moves, Wait until you are called, Be ready to talk, It’s okay to ask questions, Be friendly Asking for Directions - You decide you are lost, Find someone to ask, Make eye contact, Stand the correct distance apart, Ask for directions, Listen to the directions, Ask questions, Repeat the directions, Say “thank you”, Follow the directions. Asking for Information/Help - Decide if you need help, Decide who you will ask for help, Go to the person, Look at the person, Don’t interrupt others, Ask for help- say, “Will you please help me?”, Let the person help you, When done, thank the person Joining a Group - Decide if you want to join in, Decide how to join in, Make eye contact, Ask others if you can join them, Join in, Listen to others, Have fun
