Purpose

Conflict Resolution Through Winning Colors®, (the key to understanding and preventing violent behavior) is a unique present behavioral observation tool. Behavioral identification is crucial for conflict resolution. Many conflict resolution programs ignore this basic premise. It is through a better understanding of the four parts of self that an understanding of individual differences can be developed. Winning Colors is simple to understand and apply. Yet this workable process for resolving personal differences is profound in implication. In a matter of seconds the behavioral make-up of those in conflict, the basis for solving any discord and preventing violence, is revealed. Application strategies for resolving conflicts, which lead to violence, are given, rather than theory.

For a better understanding of both self and others, Winning Colors considers behaviors in terms of developing the four parts of self: the leadership part of self (Builder), the thinking part of self (Planner), the team building part of self (Relater) and the action part of self (Adventurer). Mature, good communicators are able to bring up those clusters of behaviors or parts of self required by the situation. Most people are a combination of at least two of these behavioral strengths - one dominating and one supporting - with at least some aspects of the others as well. Most assessments and personality inventories are focused on "type" casting based on heredity. Winning Colors instead identifies present behavioral communication strengths, and shows how others may be nurtured and developed. It then shows how to get along with others who possess different Winning Colors.

The Four Colors

Brown or Builder, is like the earth and shows leadership and decisiveness. Browns usually enjoy leading and being up front with people by expressing themselves openly and directly. Builders are practical people who will build a home, a school, a gang, a nation, a religion, a corporation or an empire. Tradition and patriotism are part of a builder's life. Builders want the bottom line. They do not like it when others are not direct with them. Builders want to be the best at everything they do.

Green or Planner, is like the ocean, with deep, hidden, changing currents. Planners enjoy planning new and better ways of doing things. They know the underlying details are important and they make sure that everything is brought into consideration before making an important decision. Planners are prone to do a lot of personal thinking. They want to cover all the details as a constant tumbling of ideas takes place in their minds. Planners are visionaries, but usually are not very practical. Planners will miss opportunities because they are too slow at getting things done. Others may steal their ideas and move with them before the Planner is up and running.

Blue or Relater, is like the sky and shows openness and feeling. Relaters usually enjoy being with people and have a high regard for emotions. Relaters know that feelings are important and will bend their needs to accommodate others. They make their judgments based upon other people rather than the facts. Relaters want unity with others and are usually romantic at heart. They are sympathetically mature and want to communicate and socialize with others. Emotional intimacy is a must in any relationship.

Red or Adventurer, is like the fire of the sun and shows excitement and action. Adventurers usually enjoy being where the action is and bringing fun and thrills into the routine of daily life. Adventurers are at their best in a time of crisis. Adventurers believe that people are free and should enjoy a life free of a multitude of laws. They usually seek excitement, adventure and risk. Adventurers are survivors. Tiredness, hunger, and pain are all part of adventure. Hardship is endured as the cost of action and excitement. Adventurers love to travel. They accept change. They are spontaneous. A person who has learned these communication behaviors and how to identify them in the people they meet will have a better understanding of what drives another person's behavior and how to better work with that individual. Successful people have learned that all four behavioral communication styles are important to possess and they have then learned to use the various behaviors at the appropriate time to obtain a specific goal or objective.
