A system for setting academic and athletic goals and developing the mental toughness to achieve them, Personal Responsibility combines the knowledge and skills of a sport with the mental toughness of a champion. This program utilizes a student athlete's interest in a sport to teach the personal success skills needed for success in academics as well as athletics.
What is Personal Responsibility?
Nothing is more important to success in any sport than the ability to set, manage, and achieve goals. This new assessment and skill enhancement system focuses on core skills related to personal responsibility and academic as well as athletic success.
PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY puts the emphasis where it belongs, on the individual. PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY puts the focus on the ability to set clear, attainable goals and then to manage oneself to the successful completion of these goals. PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY helps users sort through how well they accept responsibility for their own actions-whether they are successful or not. When failure occurs, do students/athletes procrastinate, blame others, and then engage in victim thinking? If they do, then our PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY program will help them overcome these self-defeating behaviors and teach them the skills of personal responsibility related to academic as well as athletic success.
Personal Responsibility is all about goal setting and achievement. Without a goal, commitment does not exist - Commit to what? Once a goal is set, commitment to achieve the goal can begin. Once commitment is created, motivation to achieve the goal begins to develop. Personal Responsibility is about commitment to excellence.

Why Emotional Intelligence?
Emotional Intelligence (EQ) is a learned ability to identify, experience, understand and express human emotions in healthy and productive ways. Emotional intelligence skills are primary factors of motivation and the gateway to lifelong learning and high levels of academic and athletic achievement. Unlike IQ, EQ can be developed, strengthened and enhanced throughout one's lifetime. When EQ is improved, it can have immediate benefits to one's health, one's education, one's relationships and one's athletic performance.
Unfortunately many at-risk/special education students lack the key elements for success in our society - the ability to set and achieve goals. This program will help learners identify the key factors that are holding them back and provide proven research-based intervention strategies to overcome the barriers to their success.

Our research clearly shows that special education/at-risk learners do not possess these goal setting and achievement skills that other students have. Without these key self-determination skills, transition success is highly unlikely.
